“Our rationalist, materialist era has evoked in our minds a thirst for the mythic and the sacred.
In their beautiful silence, the master works of the past beckon to us: shrouded in allegory and symbol, they speak without words.
As we stand before them, awed, we know that they are telling the truth”
What’s in a name?
Much has been written, since language began, about ‘the muse’ as a feminine force – the inspirer - and the value of the artist separating one’s own egotistical influence from the muse by defining her as a separate entity.
‘Deae’ translates from Latin as ‘The goddess’ or ‘of the goddess’. Although I originally began making art in earnest at age 15, when I took up art again at age 28, I experienced a strange transformation in my practise. Rather than consciously contriving my work, a kind of external or higher force seemed to be acting through me. My eyes and hand were essentially a conduit for this force, translating its abstract instincts, images and sentiments into a material form: the artwork.
My name as an artist reminds me to humble myself to higher values of authenticity, fidelity to the subjects of my artworks and to beauty itself.
Currently…
My quest for discovering the methods of the Old Masters has led me to my current focus on atelier training at the renowned Florence Academy of Art, situated in the city known as the cradle of the renaissance in Italy.
In a concentrated and intensive study that spans the methods employed by Masters from the Renaissance to the 19th century, only through a commitment to long days of intense concentration, academic rigor and dedication, can students cultivate an ability to harness the complexities of natural phenomena such as light, form, space and human anatomy that breathe life into the complex and captivating compositions of the past.
Driven and guided by a spirit of discipline and virtuosity, my objective is to cultivate a visually rooted language that breathes a similar life into my creations, infusing them with a timeless quality - in order to make paintings that tell timeless stories.
As you can imagine, studying at a pedigious institution comes with significant financial responsibility. If you would like to become a patron of the academic development of my craft, please consider perousing the selection of high-quality classical realistic artworks available for purchase available to explore in my latest brochure.
Influences & artistic practice…
Deae’s artistic work is an embodiment of her fixation on unraveling the significance embedded in timeless figures, narratives, and images.
Her focus circumambulates the exploration and deification of that which is beautiful, obscure, mysterious and the internal landscapes harbored within us all.
Establishing connections between subjective personal experiences, inner visions and the sacred classical European tradition, Deae's practice navigates through classicism, the mythic and the ongoing psychoanalytic movement.
Initially trained and employed in scenography, for Deae, painting serves as a psychic space, enabling her to delve into existential mysteries through the subversion of femininity, dream, archetype, and narrative.
Her conceptual project ‘The Initiate’ will consist of 12 images and combine this new level of technical and poetic aesthetic flare and sophistication with her proclivity for a deep dive into the psyche.
